Obituary of Mario Camuccio
Mario J. Camuccio, 89, of Tamarac, Florida passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013.
Born August 8, 1924 in Philadelphia, Mr. Camuccio was the son of the late Salvatore and Vincenza Camuccio both of Sicily. Mario met his beloved wife Rita, also of Philadelphia, at the age of 14. They were married for 69 years.
Survivors include his wife Rita Camuccio of Tamarac, FL; sons Dr. Joseph Camuccio of Coral Springs, FL; LCDR Robert J. Camuccio, USCG (retired) of Key Largo, FL and Dr. David Camuccio of Thousand Oaks, CA; brother Anthony Camuccio of Washington Township, NJ and 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Mario enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II and served for thirty years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Tours of duty included the destroyer escort USS FARGOUT during WWII, patrol boats and buoy tenders along the eastern seaboard and Gulf of Mexico, and ice breaking duties above the Arctic Circle. Later in his career he served at Marine Safety Offices in Buffalo, NY; Philadelphia, PA and Miami, Florida.
Mario and Rita resided in Plantation, FL during his last tour of duty and settled in Stuart, FL in 1977 where they lived for 30 years enjoying the beautiful weather, gardening, wood working and surf fishing. They moved to Tamarac, Florida in 2007.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 pm Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Forest Hills Funeral Home Palm City Chapel, Palm City, FL. Funeral service will be at 2:30 pm at the funeral home with entombment to follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
