Mary T. Chapman Batey, 74, of Palm City, FL, passed away on September 10, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital after a brief illness.

Mary was born in Beaver Falls, PA, to Robert C. Chapman, Sr., and Mary Magdalene Murphy Chapman on April 29, 1950. She attended elementary, middle, and high school in Beaver, PA. She graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Library Science. After moving to Stuart, FL, upon graduation, she met and later married Larry A. Batey on April 10, 1976. She worked as a media specialist at J.D. Parker Elementary School until the arrival of their son, Andrew S. Batey, on January 24, 1986. She later returned to work as a media specialist at Port Salerno Elementary School and eventually retired, having spent 35 years in the profession. She was a cancer survivor after being diagnosed and successfully treated for ovarian cancer in 2001.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, on June 16, 2020, along with her father, Robert, on June 29, 2003, and mother, Maggie, on September 30, 1966.

Mary is survived by her son, Andrew S. Batey, of Palm City, FL; brother, Robert C. Chapman, Jr., of Negley, OH; sister, Elizabeth Chapman Figley, of Largo, FL; grandson, Kayden J. Batey, of Palm City, FL; brother-in-law, Charles A. Batey, of Stuart, FL, along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Forest Hills Palm City Chapel on September 30, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service with Senior Pastor Darrell Orman of the First Baptist Church of Stuart officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, with a reception to follow on-site.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Save the Children or the Humane Society of the United States in her memory would be appreciated.
