Mary Elizabeth Holt Jones

Mary (Beth) Jones was born February 20, 1933 in Garden City, Iowa. She married Dennis Miears Jones on July 3,1952 in Clifton, Texas. They had four children and a wonderful 38 years together, living in a number of locales. Decorah, Iowa and Luther College was where most of their life together was spent.

After Dennis's death in 1990 Beth continued to live in Decorah, and was an active part of the Luther community for the next 27 years. Luther and her connection to friends there were very important to Beth.

Beginning in 2005 she spent summers in Decorah winters in Florida. In 2017 she moved permanently to Florida, where she lived with her daughter, Rosemary. The two of them made many trips both domestic and abroad together, enjoying time together and places seen. Beth enjoyed and appreciated many things. Chief among them were her family, church, Luther College, animals (especially dogs) shelling, friends, cooking and traveling. She was an avid reader and loved art of all kinds. She enjoyed music and was an accomplished pianist. She enjoyed volunteering, going on picnics, and watching sports on TV, especially tennis and basketball.

Throughout her life Beth was a touchstone and confidant to many friends and also especially to her family. She was loyal, welcoming, insightful, smart, loving and genuine to all. People always knew they were on her mind, because she never missed important dates, interests and events; communicating with cards and notes. Love was felt strongly in both directions.

Mary Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Burnice Peter Holt and Hyla M. Christenson Holt, and her husband, Dennis M. Jones. She is survived by her brother, Richard P. (Marie) Holt, children Alec (Laurie) Rowell, Tim (Annie) Jones, Richard (Ruth) Jones, and Rosemary Jones. Grandchildren Jessica (Evan), Sarah (Francois), Arden (Dan), Hannah (Dave), Matthew(Alexandra), Linden, Katherine(Travis), Emily, Elizabeth "Bella", and Dennis. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all.
