Mary Aquilina O'Malley, age 85, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 30, 2019, in Palm City, Florida.  Mary was the daughter of Antonio Aquilina and Pietra Castronovo Aquilina, who emigrated to America from Sicily, Italy via Ellis Island in 1910.  She grew up in East Brady, PA, and later moved to Miami Shores, FL, where she met her husband Thomas D. O'Malley, Jr., and raised their family.  Mary and Tom adored each other and devoted their lives to raising three loving children - Tom, Megan and Tim.  After retirement, Mary and Tom often helped care for their adoring grandchildren Patrick, Erin, Daniel, Tess, Brittany and Christian; and, after Tom passed away in 1998, Mary's adoring grandchildren Brenden, Kennan and Lauren.  Mary was delighted to see her two oldest grandchildren get married, and loved seeing and talking to her great-grandsons Benjamin and Declan.  Mary and Tom moved to their forever home in Palm City, FL in the early 90's, where they enjoyed spending time with their family, life-long friends from South Dade and Broward Counties, and new friends in Martin County, FL.  Mary was a faithful member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, where she regularly attended Mass until she could no longer drive, and was later blessed with home visits from Holy Redeemer's clergy.  Mary loved playing Bridge with her friends and playing board and card games with her grandchildren.  She was an avid reader who encouraged her kids and grandchildren to read.  Mary's greatest joy was her family, and she loved spending as much time with them as possible.  She loved to cook and was especially known for her homemade meatballs, tomato sauce, chicken soup and, for birthdays and special occasions, her delicious chocolate cake with special white icing; all from recipes handed down from her Mom Pietra.  No one ever left Mary's home without a belly full of great Italian food and delicious desserts.  Mary loved flowers, especially her gardenias and flowers in her backyard.  She always had a vase of fresh flowers in the entranceway to her home, reminding everybody that her flowers needed ice cubes and water every day to stay fresh.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; her parents, Antonio Aquilina and Pietra Castronovo Aquilina; and her younger brother, James, who she adored. Mary is survived by her loving sisters, Constance Kuzmick, and Helen Fenello; sister-in-law Josie Aquilina; sons, Thomas O'Malley (Rita); Timothy O'Malley (Stacie); daughter Megan Brock; and in order of appearance, her nine grandchildren - Patrick, Erin, Daniel, Tess, Brittany, Christian, Brenden, Kennan, Lauren, and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Declan.  Mary also leaves behind a large, happy Italian-American family of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family who she loved dearly, as well as many dear, close friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Palm City, FL.  Following Mary's Memorial Mass, Mary's sons will be hosting a catered Italian "Celebration of Mary's Life" at Addington Place of Stuart (formerly known as "Allegro"), 3400 Aster Drive, Stuart, Florida.

The family wants to express its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Allegro Assisted Living and the doctors, nurses and staff at Treasure Coast Hospice, all of whom provided Mary with compassionate, loving care in her final challenging month of life.
