Obituary of Michael Carle

Michael Theodore Carle, 83, passed away suddenly, but peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2015 in Palm City, FL. He was born in Riverdale, MD on December 1, 1931, and settled in Rockville, Maryland. In1987, he moved to Tallahassee, Florida, then to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1988, and ultimately to Palm City, Florida in 2014.

Michael was married to his wife, Jacqueline, in 1957, and they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in May. After nobly serving his country during the Korean War as a proud member of the United States Air Force, he spent more than 30 years working for the federal government at HUD in Washington, DC as a computer scientist. When he retired from HUD in 1981 at the age of 50, he was at the top of

his field. Always eager to learn and never one to rest on his laurels, he then decided to enroll at a local community college, where he studied archaeology and anthropology. He later went on to participate in a small dig in Virginia that was sponsored by the Smithsonian. He thoroughly enjoyed what he would later describe as one of his lifelong dreams. He always enjoyed working with his hands, and could build, fix or make anything - a talent he fortunately passed on to his son and daughter (and her two sons). When a long time friend asked him to help out with his newly opened antique restoration shop, he not only provided much of the necessary financing for the project, but also

spent long hours in the shop, turning old, beat up and damaged pieces into beautiful works of art. It remained a thriving business until the time he moved to Florida in

1987. Another dream realized.

Almost immediately after they moved to Port St. Lucie, he and Jacquie became constant fixtures at Port St. Lucie High School as members of the school's Athletic Boosters program, despite the fact that none of their grandchildren were ever enrolled there. They volunteered tirelessly, helping out at every football game, not to mention almost every other athletic activity at the school. They even helped with the planting of the inaugural football field, as well as with the construction of the press box. In 1999 they were both appropriately recognized and were awarded the city of Port St. Lucie's Volunteers of the Year.

Michael was deeply involved in Boy Scouts of America ever since his son, Mike, joined the Cub Scouts back in Maryland in 1971. He continued his involvement in the Boy Scouts even after Mike obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. After he moved to Florida, he was once again asked to lend a hand with scouting, and naturally, he gladly agreed to help out. He and Jacquie spent endless volunteer hours working with the Sailfish District Boy Scouts. He served as Commissioner for 3 different Scout units, and continued to serve on the Eagle Scout Board until his death. He was very heavily involved in the annual Boy Scout Klondike Derby, and served on the Roundtable Training Staff. He was awarded both the Spark Plug Award and the District Award of Merit, and also earned the St. George award. Jacquie and Mike could always be seen together on camping trips, at meetings, at the Klondike Derby, and most other Boy Scout activities until Jacquie's Alzheimer's disease progressed to the point where it became impossible for either of them to continue participating.

Michael was a devout Episcopalian, and he was a well-known and much loved member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart. Even before they were married, he and Jacquie taught Sunday school together at All Saints Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase, Maryland, where they both worshiped at the time. His deep faith still strong, once they arrived in Florida, both Michael and Jacquie immediately became heavily involved at St. Mary's with their Sunday school curriculum. Michael trained countless acolytes at St. Mary's, serving as an acolyte himself. A lay Eucharistic

minister, he was involved in numerous aspects of the church for over 25 years. His greatest joy, next to his faith, was most certainly his family. If you knew Michael, you knew how deeply proud he was of his family. He felt blessed every day to have been able to live near his grandsons, Benjamin and Nicholas. He leaves behind his wife, Jacqueline Munroe Carle, his son Michael (Mickey) M. Carle, his daughter Dorothy (Dot) Galfond and son-in-law Mark Galfond, four grandchildren; Benjamin Galfond, Nicholas Galfond, Melanie Seymour, and Glenn Seymour; and one great

grandchild, Maya Seymour. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Dayna Seymour.

A memorial service to celebrate Michael's life will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal

Church, 623 SE Ocean Blvd, Stuart, FL on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM. In
