IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Joseph
Chenier
November 19, 1961 – October 29, 2021
Michael Joseph Chenier
November 19, 1961 - October 29, 2021
Michael passed away peacefully after a brief battle with lung cancer, combined with esophageal stricture, and pneumonia.
Michael was born in Montreal, Quebec Canada. While in his teens his family moved to Stuart, Florida where he attended Martin County High School. Michael worked for the family business, Monterrey Tires, and later for Amerigives, where his nickname was "zippy" (anyone who knew
and loved Michael will totally understand this!). He worked at several restaurants, as a server, which he excelled at (especially if you were to ask him! Haha!). As a child he could tell you the prices of nearly every item in the local drug store. And, there was not a lever or knob inside of a
car which young Michael would not play with, leaving the radio at full volume and the wipers going at full speed. He was also a typical tyrannical older brother and was an expert at playfully terrorizing his younger sister Carol.
Michael enjoyed performing on stage, where he performed as his drag alter ego Veronique Michaels (or Vickie Pickles to his more sarcastic irreverent friends). He loved television, especially watching "Cop shows" such as NCIS and Law and Order. His husband, Steve, liked
to joke that if he ever turned up missing, Michael did it because of the hours he spent watching Forensic Files. Michael was a fiercely loyal friend, a defender of the underdogs, and one of those rare individuals who would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. Friends and
family will certainly remember his signature holiday greeting, "Jingle Bells!". One of his famous humorous quotes was "If I don't remember it, it didn't happen". Michael met the love of his life, Steve, in 1999. They were unofficially married in 2002, and were legally married in 2015. They remained deeply in love and completely devoted to each other right till the end.
Michael was a fighter and had several health issues in the past few years. He was forced to use a walker because of a botched hip replacement and needed a defibrillator to regulate his heart. Despite all of this he remained cheerful, and Steve became his loving caregiver.
Michael was preceded in death by his wonderful parents, Mathew and Rollande. He is survived by his husband Steve, his Sister Carol, his nephews Gregory and Mathew, his niece Lauren, and his two sweet dachshund babies Eva and Max.
