IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Francis
Mulligan
August 11, 1942 – July 2, 2025
In Loving Memory of Michael Francis Mulligan
Michael Francis Mulligan, age 82, passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.
Born on August 11th, 1942, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Michael was the son of Virginia and Frank Mulligan and the brother of Virginia, all of whom predeceased him. He graduated from Fort Hamilton High School, where he made many lifelong friends, and shortly after entered the United States Army, where he proudly served during the years of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After serving his country and perfecting his storytelling, Michael returned home and built a life full of hard work and family. He spent many years as a pressman for several New York newspapers, including The New York Times, The Daily News, and The New York Post. He met the love of his life, Elizabeth ("Betty") Mulligan, and was married in 1972. Soon after, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit to open his own liquor store in Baldwin, Long Island.
In 1982, Michael and Betty were blessed with their son, Michael, and purchased their dream home in Half Hollow Hills, Long Island. Though he would never claim to be a professional, he could always be counted on to play the piano, sing a song or tell you a joke that filled the house with joy and laughter. He could talk for hours, and his warmth and generosity made everyone feel welcome. He never met a stranger. The neighbors would say "he would talk to a tree if the tree would talk back".
He was a kind and loving father to his son, a devoted husband, and a proud grandfather to Scarlett and Beau, who brought him immeasurable happiness. After raising his family, he retired to the Monarch in Palm City where he picked up golf, which he always called a "crazy game with a hole so far away". He made many wonderful friends during his retirement and treasured the time he spent with them. Nothing made him happier than making Betty happy, and you could often find them dancing at a party or in their great room.
In his later years, he found deep peace in his faith and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. In line with his generous spirit, he was involved in many charitable organizations, including the Light of the World, the 4Cs (Caring Children Clothing Children), the Elks, and the Knights of Columbus. On most Sundays, Michael found great joy ushering with style at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, his son, his grandchildren, his daughter-in-law, and many dear friends he made along the way.
A Mass celebrating his life will be held at 10am on Friday, July 25th at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, followed by a luncheon reception at the Monarch Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to share a favorite story or toast in his memory, or make a charitable donation to the 4Cs (
