Obituary of Miriam Schuhmann
Miriam T. Schuhmann, 78 beloved wife of the late Frederick J. Schuhmann died September 26th after a long battle of lung cancer. She is survived by her children; Jeanne & Carl Ehmann, Mary and James Lilly ; James Schuhmann (deceased) Paul and Colleen Schuhmann; Ann and Robert Occhipinti; Elizabeth and Michael Arianas- Scardigno; Andrew and Teresa Schuhmann; Theresa Marett; Michael Schuhmann.
She was adored by her grand children, Terrence & Bernadette Ehmann; Paul & Maureen Lilly; Rose & Matthew Schuhmann; Kelly Ann Occhipinti; Michael Aranias; Katie Scardigno and Emma & Grace Schuhmann.
She often referred to herself as being an East side kid growing up on the upper east side of Manhattan and attending St. Vincents Ferra parish and Cathedral High School. She graduated from St. Vincent Nursing School in 1949 where she met and retained life long friends. She continued to hone her nursing skills with neighbors and to cultivate friendships while being an active member of St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre. Here she raised her nine children and half the neighborhood. She was avid volunteer, religious education instructor and hostess to many neighborhood parties.
In the late 80s she went kicking and screaming to Palm City, Florida with her late husband who she cared for many years. Miriam yet again embraced a community, this time The Charter Club of Martin Downs and the parish of Holy Redeemer. They in return surround her with life, love and laughter. She played cards, volunteered, lunched and baked many Irish soda breads.
How blessed so many are, in so many places, to have had this lady grace our world.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Miriams memory may be made to Light of the World Charities, P.O. Box 273, Palm City, FL 34991.
