Ninfa "Fay" Verdura

Ninfa "Fay" Verdura passed away, peacefully, in her sleep on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at the age of 101.  Born the sixth child of Joseph and Liboria Verdura in Brooklyn, New York, she relocated to Hialeah, Florida in 1959, where she continued to live with her sister, Catherine Mehler and her family.  Fay moved to Stuart, Florida in 2014, after the death of her last sister, to be near her niece Nicki Schoonover and her family.

Fay was exceptionally proud of her Sicilian (Italian) heritage and was devoted to family.  She never married but assumed the role of "second mother" to many of her siblings' children and their children.   At the time of her death, Fay boasted about her twenty-four nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, too many to count.
Fay was predeceased by her parents and her nine siblings and their spouses.

Pivotal to her well-being during the last years of her life was the unwavering love and attention by her Florida family:  Nicki (David) Schoonover; Rebecca Schoonover; Kelley (Josh) Kraft; Christine Buck; Angelina Buck; Jason (Larissa) Mehler and children; and Matthew Mehler.   Fay's family is also thankful for the kindhearted oversight provided by the staff of Addington Place of Stuart where she resided; the compassionate medical care through the Council on Aging's Day Medical Center; and the support of Treasure Coast Hospice during her final days of life.

A Catholic Mass in her honor is scheduled for 11am, Saturday, March 18, 2023, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 12001 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound, Florida.
