Norbert L. Dirr, age 105, passed away peacefully at home in Palm City, Florida surrounded by family. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Norbert was born on November 7, 1915. He lived in Martin County for 41 years. Before moving to Martin County, he attended the University of Cincinnati, Harvard University and the University of Miami. For 29 years, he resided in Ft. Lauderdale where, before his retirement, he was an insurance executive. He served in the United States Air Corps and later retired from the United States Air Force Reserve with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He served on the Civil Service Board of Ft. Lauderdale for 16 years. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club, a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church & School, and a member of the 49 th Air Depot Group WWII Association. Norbert is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Gretchen R. Dirr of Palm City, two sons, Darien Dirr (Mary) of Boca Raton, Florida and Kenton Dirr (Geri) of Kennesaw, Georgia, two daughters, Adrienne Brennan (George) of Winter Garden, Florida and Lisa Kavadellas (Nick) of Woodstock, Georgia, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was an extremely kind, generous and loving person – a man of true faith, hard work and integrity. He was a friend to everyone he met and touched the lives of so many people. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was loved so much by all who knew him and his family will miss him immensely.
A memorial service will be held on February 7, 2021, at 12:30pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2450 S.E. Ocean Boulevard, Stuart, Florida 34996.
