IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norma E.
Hurst Mcfarlane
March 23, 1934 – September 20, 2021
Obituary for Norma McFarlane September 30, 2021
Norma Eileen McFarlane (nee Hurst) was born to Iris and Earnest Hurst in Windsor Castle, St. Mary, Jamaica on March 23, 1934. She was the eldest of six daughters and took her role of big sister very seriously.
She was calm, studious, and meticulous in her work. Upon graduation from high school, she studied nursing at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. She graduated in the first batch of nursing students. Thereafter, she worked at hospitals both in Morant Bay, Kingston, and Montego Bay.
It was in Montego Bay that Norma Hurst met and later married Wellesley McFarlane. Their marriage lasted over forty years. She worked in hospitals in New York and then at the Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, Florida. Norma was known and respected as a professional, diligent, caring, and compassionate nurse. Her patients were her priority. When Nurse McFarlane took you under her care, you were always treated with the utmost respect and kindness.
Norma McFarlane was a second mother to her nieces and nephews, and to extended family members. She is remembered with love and a host of pleasant memories. She had a cadre of friends who never ceased to stay in contact with her. Phone calls and visits brightened her days.
She loved the Lord, His Word, and served those whom she encountered. Family and friends within her orbit knew and felt her love.
We rest in the hope that God greeted her on Monday, September 20, 2021, with the words, "Welcome my good and faithful servant."
Aunt Norma, Aunt Norms, Norma, Cherry, Ms. Mac, Ms. McFarlane - we will miss you without end.
