Owen Daniel McVeigh, 90, one of eight children born in the Bronx, NY on October 24, 1930 of Irish immigrant parents, Catherine Naughton and Francis McVeigh. Loving husband of Lily McVeigh for the past 28 years. Predeceased by his first wife, Margaret L. McVeigh.Loving father of 10 children, Margaret Palma, Owen Michael (Maureen), James (Char-maine), Thomas (Patricia), Vincent (Jennifer), Kevin (Sally), Michael (Elizabeth),Francis (Theresa), Kathleen Coughlin (Robert), Terence (Virginia). Loving grandfatherof 22 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Loving brother of Anne and beloved Uncle to the McVeighs in Florida. In addition, heleaves behind his cousin, Paddy Goodman, and many relatives in Ireland.Owen passed peacefully on January 25, 2021 in Palm City, Florida, surrounded by his family.Owen served his country during the Korean War in both the United States Army and the United States MarineCorps. He went on to serve the City of New York as an officer in the NYPD for 26 years with a majority ofthose years spent in the 101 Precinct.The McVeigh children were raised in a loving environment in a beautiful orange brickhouse on Beach 127th Street. Owen and Lily resided in Palm City, Florida for much of thelast 20 years. Frequent trips to Rockaway for summers and family events were the norm.He enjoyed playing golf in his later years but mostly enjoyed the time he spent with hisfamily. He made the most delicious breakfast of bacon and pancakes. His meatloaf andmashed potatoes were family favorites. Owen was the master of cleaning; his floors werealways spotless and his clothes were always folded to perfection, a trait he passed on tomany of his family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales for family members only,
due to Covid restrictions. A Memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
