Obituary of Percy Hornby
Percy Robson (Roger) Hornby, age 95, of Hobe Sound, FL passed away peacefully from this life on Sunday, December 16, 2012.
He was born on August 6, 1917 in New Brighton, PA to Dora Isabel Hardy and Percy Hornby. Having graduated from high school in New Brighton, he later became a flight instructor in the Navy and Marine Corp Aviation during World War II. His love for flying and concern for the young men he trained continued throughout his life. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Percy enjoyed auto races, photography, fishing and camping trips with his family in the mountains of New York and Pennsylvania. He taught his children how to enjoy camping, regardless of where they were or what season it was. He owned auto parts stores in Wellsville, NY and Westfield, PA and later was a licensed realtor in West Palm Beach, Marathon Key and Hobe Sound, FL.
On September 22, 1951 he married, and is survived by, Arloine Emilie (Tish) Stebbins of Whitesville, NY. They have three children: Lucinda H. Cantrell (Frank) of Simpsonville, SC, James R. Hornby (Sally) of England, and Mary H. Beatty (Mark) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He also has a daughter, Ruthanne Fridley (John W.), living in Towanda, PA from his first marriage. God has blessed him with nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Percy is predeceased by his younger brothers, Roland Hornby of Newport Beach, CA and Richard H. Hornby of Fallon, NV.
At the age of 95, Percy's life was full with many fond memories and people who loved him dearly. He had just one regret and that was to fly again. Our Lord has taken Percy home and provided him a heaven in which to soar.
Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Hills Funeral Homes, Palm City Chapel.
