Obituary

A lover of life, Phil Spier Sr.  passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children on September 5, 2023.  He was 86 years old.

Phil was one of those people in life that made you LAUGH a little louder, SMILE a little bigger and LIVE just a little bit better.

Phil was born in Danbury, Connecticut in 1937.  He resided in Stuart and Palm City for many years before he moved to Port St. Lucie.  Phil graduated from Greenwich High School in Greenwich, CT, then served in the US Navy's 7th Fleet as a signalman.  He loved cars and spent years racing in SCCA races.  After selling his liquor store in Connecticut, he relocated to Stuart, Florida and became well-known selling Charles Chips to local businesses.  Phil also opened The Sub Station Deli, as well as other enterprises.  Phil and Kathy Spier Promotions started in the 1980's, and began hosting home and local boat shows, and promotional events of all types.  That business eventually became Eventmakers International, which grew to become a major event and rental company.

Phil served on various organizations and clubs, including as president of Western Greenwich Lions Club, director of Martin County Chamber of Commerce, president of Stuart Sports Car Club and Treasure Coast Vintage Car Club.

Phil lived his life with passion and curiosity.  He started and ran many successful businesses, and was a gifted entrepreneur and a natural salesman.  Phil knew how to dream big, work hard and stay focused- and his efforts brought him success and satisfaction.  He also had a quiet, reflective side which helped him stay grounded.  Phil had a knack for putting people at ease with his quick wit and sense of humor, and he was good at making new friends.  Phil never met a stranger.

He could drive anything, from the smallest sports car to a 40-foot motorhome.  He loved the thrill of the open road and delighted in fantastic adventures with Kathy across North America.  Yachting was another of his passions- once cruising from Canada to Florida and up the Tennessee Tombigbee (Tenn Tom) Waterway.  After retiring, Phil enjoyed years of traveling, boating, RVing and spending time with family and close friends.

Phil was preceded in death by his father Ernie and his mother Ulla, his brother Elden, first wife Mary Ann and son-in-law Mark.  He is remembered with love by his second wife Kathy, children Phil Jr. and Sheri, his daughter-in-law Kim, his grandchildren Jennifer, Amanda, Derek, Sol, Ben and Sam, and his great grandchildren Sophia, Noah, Scarlett and Tegan, and many nieces and nephews.  On the road again, he will forever be in our hearts.

Friends and family are welcome to join us for a celebration of life on October 14 at the Dolphin Bar (Jensen Beach) from 12:00pm-3:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice or to World Central Kitchen and Treasure Coast Hospice.  He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.  May he rest in peace.  Online condolences and tributes may be expressed to the family at Forest Hills Palm City Chapel site (www.foresthillspalmcityflorida.com).
