Phyllis Elaine Nicholas was born on October 3, 1935, in Savannah-La-Mar, Jamaica. She was the second of seven children born to the late Leonard Hugh Uriah Anglin and the late Francella Eliza Boothe Anglin. Phyllis received her elementary education at Savannah-La-Mar Government School and secondary education at St. Mary's Academy.

She migrated to Sheffield, England where she obtained her Fever Nursing Training at Lodge Moor Hospital and General Nursing Education at City General Hospital. She furthered her nursing credentials by completing Midwifery Training at Nether Edge Hospital as well as education in Public Health at the University of Hull, United Kingdom.

In 1968, she returned to Jamaica where she completed six more months of midwifery training at Jubilee Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. This enabled her to meet the registration requirements to practice Public Health Nursing on the Island.

In 1969, Phyllis migrated to the United States of America and gained employment at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree Cum Laude in Community Health at Mercy College and a Master's Degree in Public Administration at Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus.

Phyllis was also an entrepreneur. She operated Celebration House, an event planning business and party supply store in Bronx, New York.

In 1990, Phyllis retired and relocated to Port St. Lucie, Florida with her late husband, George Nicholas. In 1992, she returned to work at St. Lucie County Health Department and held the position of Senior Public Health Supervisor. During her tenure, she also acted as Nursing Director at the Health Department for nine months.

Phyllis actively participated in life. While living in New York, she was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in the Bronx. She was a founding member of the Nursing and Allied Outreach Program and served as its President for several terms. Through their health fairs, the organization provided free health education and screenings for the community. She also chaired the stewardship committee and was instrumental in the building fund committee.

Phyllis continued her stewardship in Florida as a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Jensen Beach. She was Parish Representative of the Cursillo Movement, T.R.U.E. fund coordinator, as well as a member of the vestry and the Daughters of the King. She also started the Nursing and Allied Outreach Program in Florida, serving as that chapter's President for several terms as well.

Phyllis' stewardship extended beyond the walls of her church. She volunteered with the Girls Can Program at Morningside Elementary School. She was a member of the Florida Nurses Association and Diabetes Coalition. She also founded the Saint Lucie County Branch of the American Association of University Women and held various positions within the organization, including: Director of Membership, Director of Programs, President for several terms and Director at Large.

Phyllis Elaine Nicholas departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. She is survived by her two children, Hudson (Sharon) Green, Sr. and Helene (Christopher) Delpeche; two stepchildren, Pamela Green and Hopeton (Avery) Green; seven grandchildren, Shanika (Oaklin), Phyllis, Danielle, Aure, Marcus, Malcolm and Hudson, Jr; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Wright and Pauline (Noel) King; a very special brother-in-law Albert Case; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family-in-laws and friends.
