Obituary

The world lost a kind and generous soul on February 15 th with the passing of Ray Stevenson of Sewall's Point. Following more than a decade's long battle with Alzheimer's Disease, Ray passed away peacefully at home in the care of his wife of 37 years, Ellyn. He is also survived by his proud and adoring sons Jeffrey( Amy) and Kirk(Laura), and their mother Patti of Atlanta, his sister Judith Stevenson of Stuart, and his four adoring, good looking and above-average grandchildren: Grace, Piper, Drew, and Will. He will also be greatly missed by his favorite sisters-in-law Betsy Feuerstein of Cleveland and Nancy Pickard of Aspen.

Born in Ohio in 1937, Ray received his BS and MBA from Ohio State University. He began his career in hospital administration early, ultimately becoming President of Charter Medical Corporation during its most productive years. It was under his leadership that for-profit hospital corporations began branding their facilities, a move unprecedented in the industry. Over the years more than 130 hospitals came under his direction including the American Hospital of Paris, Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York, hospitals in Saudi Arabia and England, and many in both large and small towns across the United States. Following his marriage to Ellyn in 1985 after an eight-week courtship, and his retirement later that year, the two pursued a myriad of interests and endeavors. They co-piloted airplanes, co-captained boats, and managed investments, real estate, and startup businesses together. They accomplished all of this rarely agreeing on anything.

To minimize health risks to family and friends there are no services planned at this time, however, Ray loved nothing better than a party surrounded by friends and family so there will be a celebration later this year. Those wishing to remember Ray at any time should do so by performing an act of kindness without expectation of recognition or reward. He would be very honored.
