IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Saxon
Birdsong
October 28, 1944 – April 7, 2022
Richard Saxon Birdsong (Saxon), 77, of Palm City, FL, formerly of Ellicott City, MD, passed away on April 7, 2022 surrounded by his family at Moffit Cancer Center after a long bout with cancer.
Saxon served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 9 th Engineer Battalion (c) in Germany in the late 1960s. In 1977, he began his financial career working for the First National Bank of Maryland until accepting a consulting position with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in 1987. In 1991, Saxon and his colleague and close friend Rob Williams left Deloitte and began a financial planning company which later merged with Baltimore-Washington Financial Advisors in 1996, where he remained as CEO until he sold the firm and retired in 2011.
Saxon was a lifelong avid fisherman, boater, and automotive enthusiast. He enjoyed travelling overseas, road trips in his Porsche 911 Turbo S and boat trips in his Grady White. He was a great mechanic and mister fix-it and always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. His condo in Crisfield, MD, on the Eastern Shore, was his sanctuary.
Saxon valued his relationships with family and friends above all else. He selflessly devoted his time and attention to helping anyone who came to him in matters of automotive mechanics, finances, and personal growth. He was most known for his unique sense of humor and took every opportunity possible to lighten the mood by weaving jokes into his conversations. Humor was Saxon's way of connecting with people.
Saxon was born in Miami, FL on October 28, 1944, son of the late Harold Saxon Birdsong and Juanita Whaley. He is survived by his current wife, Anne Marie Birdsong, and his stepchildren Carolyn Anne Juris, Christopher Nicholas Juris and his wife Esther Lee Juris. He is survived by his second wife Joanne Mary Jurkowski and their beloved son, Jacob Samuel Birdsong, his wife Leela Jasmine Birdsong and their son Hugh Isaac Birdsong and stepson Aiden Michael Rector. He is survived by his first wife Karen Birdsong. He is survived by one sister, Sandra Lee Birdsong and one half-brother, Keith Martin Birdsong. He leaves behind many great friends.
