IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Howard
Steinberg
August 1, 1936 – March 19, 2023
Richard Howard Steinberg (Dick) sadly passed away on March 19, 2023 at his apartment at Addington Place in Stuart, Florida. His last day was spent with his daughter Corey and daughter-in-law Ruthie and later died peacefully in the loving arms of his son Jeff.
Dick was born on August 1, 1936 in Newark, New Jersey to Al and Gert Steinberg. He attended Columbia High School in New Jersey before getting his B.A. from Cornell University and his J.D. from Columbia University. Dick practiced law in Elizabeth, New Jersey for many years before joining Mandelbaum, Salsburg in West Orange, New Jersey, where he was a partner until his retirement and move to Florida in 2001. He was one of the top real estate lawyers in the country, an absolutely brilliant attorney.
Dick married the love of his life, Roslyn, on August 20, 1961. They remain blissfully married until Roz's unfortunate passing on August 21, 2009. A more loving and devoted husband has never existed. On their very first date he asked Roz to marry him. She answered with a resounding "are you out of your mind?" But he persisted until she finally agreed.
Dick loved golf, even though he was never very good at it. His favorite places were Pebble Beach, Nevis and Dorado Beach, where he and Roz took several golf trips. She used to get so mad at him because even when playing a fun round of golf, he would never break a rule. Once he refused to move his ball off a tree root and almost broke his wrist hitting it. While he yelled out in pain, Roz responded "serves you right" and proceeded to drive away and hit her ball.
Dick served in the United States Army. He loved reading, crossword puzzles, the New York Philharmonic, and rooting for the Yankees, Rangers and Giants. He loved dogs, especially his shih tzu Miko, who was the love of his life after Roz passed. He was Mr. Manners, always standing up when a lady left or returned to the table or walked into a room, and opening car doors. He lived his life with honor, morals, dignity, integrity and the highest ethical standards.
Dick was instrumental in raising and donating millions of dollars to charities over his life, including the Alzheimer's Association of New Jersey and the American Cancer Society. After Roz's death, he and his granddaughter Danielle founded Team Roz, which raised money for cancer research. He was named volunteer of the year for the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program, where he drove cancer patients to their treatments and doctor's appointments.
Dick is survived by his loving children Jeffrey and Corey, his daughter-in-law Ruthie (who he always referred to as his daughter and never his daughter-in-law), and his grandchildren Danielle and Jake, who were perfect in his eyes.
Once when asked what his favorite word was, he replied "LOVE." That says it all. He was a hero and a legend and will never be forgotten.
