Obituary of Salvatore Anicito

Salvatore John Anicito, a generous, loving and wonderful man passed August 7, 2008 at Hay-Madeira Hospice House in Stuart, Florida after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers Disease. He was 66 years old. He was born on June 24, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey, and was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Livingston High School in 1961 and went on to Powell, Wyoming where he attended junior college. While attending school there, he met the love of his life, Karen Stahn, in January, 1963. They married each other on August 31, 1963. From Powell, they moved to Yankton, South Dakota where Sal graduated from Yankton College in 1966. Sal and Karen were married for 39 years before Karens death in 2003.

Sal had an extensive career in the field of education and coaching. His first job was at Newark Academy in New Jersey, where he coached football and wrestling and taught PE. He moved to Friends Central in 1974 where he coached football and taught PE. While there, he turned the football team around and then went to win Pennjersey Championships in 1975 and 1976. In 1978, Sal moved to Fort Worth Country Day School where he helped build the football program using the Delaware Wing-T. At Country Day, he led the team to the TAPS State Championships in 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1983. He was also named Coach of the Year in 1980 and 1981. After building the program there, Sal moved to a new challenge at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, South Carolina. The Heathwood Highlanders won the SCISSA Championship in 1986 and 1988. Ransom Everglades School in Coconut Grove, Florida was Sals next challenge. While there, Sal literally turned the football program around with his dynamic coaching style and focused approach. He took the school to their first play-off appearance and victory in the history of the school in 1994. After Ransom, Sal went to Fryburg Academy for one year before leaving the cold weather behind to work at sunny Hilton Head Prep. There, they won state championships again in 1997 and 1998 and he was again named Coach of the Year! Sals record was a winning one!!

Sal was a son, brother, husband, son-in-law, father, father-in-law, coach and friend. He was a tolerant and kind man. He loved people, but most of all, he loved his family. Sal was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, and his father, John. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands: Trena (Gabe) Gumusician of Westlake, Ohio; Jody (Ted) Cunningham of Miami, Florida; Kris (Brant) Long of Biscayne Park, and Suzanne (Jerry) Santos of Biscayne Park; and his 8 grandchildren: Nicole, Claudia, Victoria, Nolan, Taylor, Samantha, Reese and Kyle; his mother, Ida Anicito; his sister, Connie Repoli; and his brother, John Anicito.

The visitation will be at Forest Hills Funeral Homes Palm City Chapel on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 from 10:00AM 12:00PM with a service at 12:00 PM and entombment immediately following at Forest Hills Memorial Park. A guest registry may be signed at www.foresthillsfunerals.com.
