IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sara
Hatchadoorian
December 30, 1933 – April 14, 2025
Sara Hatchadoorian, age 91, of Mahopac, NY, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT. She was born on December 30, 1933, in Yonkers, NY.
Sara Graduated from the Cochran School of Nursing in 1955 and began her career as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Yonkers. After taking time away to care for and raise her family, she returned to nursing for 15 years as a visiting nurse with The Dominican Sisters in Ossining, NY. Even in retirement, while living in Palm City, FL, she continued her life of caring as a personal care assistant.
Sara was a proud Armenian whose roots ran deep. She was an avid backgammon player - a force to be reckoned with - and enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and quilting, creating beautiful items for family and charity. Her homemade basterma and Finikia were legendary, and her shish kabob and pilaf feasts are fondly remembered by all who gathered at her table.
While raising their family, Sara and her husband Raymond loved spending summer days boating on the Hudson River, Long Island Sound, Martha's Vineyard, and Cuttyhunk with family and friends. The family boats over the years carried names reflecting the family's Armenian heritage: Armenian Power, Hye Yenk, and Hye Times.
Sara is survived by her children, Andrew Hatchadoorian of Mahopac, NY; Caryl Minard (Joe Fontana) of Bloomingdale, NJ; Danielle Rydberg(Stephen) of Clinton, MA. She was a devoted grandmother to Ani, Tahlene, and Axel Rydberg, the children of Danielle and Stephen.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond Hatchadoorian; her Parents, Harry and Sophie Komeshian; her brothers Raffy and Stephen Komeshian; and her grandsons, Tomas and Kristofer.
In Sara's name, donations may be made to her favorite charity the Armenian Tree Project at armeniatree.org .
