Sylvester "Sy" L. DeCesare, 94, of Stuart, FL, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2016 at the Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, Florida.
Born in Steubenville, OH, on May 23rd, 1922, the son of Francesco and Mary DeCesare, one of four children.
Sy excelled in football and attended Miami of Ohio University before entering the US Marine Corps fighting in the battle of Iwo Jima and receiving the Purple Heart.
He became an executive with Seagrams Corporation and owner operator of Majestic Liquor in Cleveland, Ohio.
Upon Retirement he moved from Westlake, OH to Stuart, FL and resided at the Willoughby Golf Club for 30 years.
His military service was highlighted by taking the Honor Flight in May of 2013.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Grace DeCesare and his sister Pauline Ralls of Cleveland; his sons, Michael DeCesare and wife Nancy; Kenneth DeCesare and wife Linda of Cleveland; David DeCesare; his daughters, Diane DeCesare and Laura DeCesare of Rocky River, OH; his step-daughter Charleen Sabin and husband Jeffrey of Palm City, FL; his step son, Mark Murphy of Stuart; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Frank DeCesare and sister Jennie Marini.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City.
