THELDA MARIE PRICE SIXSMITH

April 8, 1921 ~ April 27, 2015

It is with sadness and yet peace we announce the passing of Marie Sixsmith on April 27th, in her 95th year.

Marie - a longtime resident of Port Saint Lucie - was born April 8th, 1921 in Uniontown, PA to Harrison C. and Maude Swaney Price. She is predeceased by her parents, a brother Merwyn Price, and by James Martin Sixsmith, her loving husband of sixty-seven years.

Following graduation from Uniontown High School she received her nursing degree in the first graduating class of the Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, PA.

Her nursing career took an unusual turn when she met and fell in love with one of her patients, a love that led to a marriage of sixty-seven years and three devoted children.

Marie was an active member of the Pittsburgh community, taking part and holding offices in the Parent Teacher Association, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, as well as Women's Club and Bridge Club. She was president of the Churchill Area Garden Club and was the founder of the Character's East Community Theater.

In the 1960's - with her family well established -- Marie returned to nursing when there was a critical shortage. She was the charge nurse of the Columbia Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Prior to moving to Florida, Marie and her husband, Jim, lived at Point Chautauqua, New York where she served as an Elder of the Westfield New York Presbyterian Church.

In 1980, they moved to Port Saint Lucie. Marie, joining in church and community activities, renewed her interest in gardening, enjoyed playing bridge, playing her piano, learning the organ, and discovered oil painting With an avid interest in crocheting, one her afghans placed in a juried state Women's Club competition.

Marie is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Waldron and husband Chuck, of Port Saint Lucie; a daughter Marty Beachler of Port Saint Lucie. Marie was much loved by her son-in-law, Alan Beachler, who preceded her passing by only a month. In addition, she is survived by her loving son James M. Sixsmith II of Safety Harbor, FL; grandson, James G. Sixsmith, his wife Melissa and great-granddaughter, Kendall, of Pittsburgh, PA.

She is also survived by a niece, Carol Wallace, and husband Jerry; and nephew, Merwyn Price and wife Linda, of Uniontown, Pa, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Her children would like to recognize Treasure Coast Hospice for the loving care they provided for their mother

Visitation hours are Monday, May 4th from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Forest Hills Palm City Chapel, 2001 SW Murphy Road, Palm City, FL,. There will be a celebration of life service at 11:30 am, followed by a reception.
