Obituary

Thomas Solomon Ackel Jr.
May 22, 1939 - June 22, 2025

Born on May 22, 1939 in Mount Clemens, Michigan, Thomas was a proud Lebanese-Polish-American whose thoughtful nature, gentle strength, and deep love for the water defined much of his life. After graduating from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1957, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Coast Guard, where he developed a lifelong respect for discipline, honor, and the sea.

In 1965, Thomas married the love of his life, Diana Zogbi. Their marriage of 60 years was filled with unwavering devotion, shared traditions, and the joys of raising three children: Victoria, Thomas, and Barbara. A longtime resident of Stuart and a member of the Anchor Line Yacht Club, Thomas was an accomplished boater and passionate sports fisherman who found his truest peace on the water and was happiest with a rod in
hand. Always looking out for others, Thomas became a pioneer in the development of senior mobile home communities, believing in the value of creating affordable, dignified spaces where older adults could thrive.

In 1983, he developed Ackel Estates in Stuart, a large real estate community that demonstrated his entrepreneurial vision. This achievement further cemented his legacy as both a visionary and an astute businessman, although he was equally well known for his quiet strength, generosity, and wisdom. After establishing himself in business within his local community in Fort Lauderdale, he actively demonstrated his desire to support and uplift those around him by spearheading civic projects and fostering community fellowship as president of his local Rotary Club.

Not only was Thomas widely known within his community for his stoic wisdom, those who knew him well will regale you with stories about his sharp and observant wit that often surfaced in the form of perfectly timed one-liners. He had a remarkable way of remaining quiet, then suddenly delivering the funniest, most unexpected remark with comedic timing that would leave everyone in the room laughing. Tom leaves behind a legacy of integrity, generosity, and kindness that touched many lives.

He will be profoundly missed and long remembered by his family, friends, neighbors, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Zogbi Ackel, as well as his children: Victoria, Thomas, and Barbara.
