Obituary

Thomas Gaston Massar, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 4, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on November 2, 1940, in Paterson, New Jersey, Tom lived a life centered on faith, family, and service. He enjoyed a 30 year long career as an engineer with Bell Telephone. He was deeply committed to his faith and community through his involvement with the Knights of Columbus and his service as an usher at Holy Redeemer Church in Palm City, Florida.Tom shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Lucille (Schumacher) Massar. Together, they built a lifetime of cherished memories, traveling the world with friends, and always holding hands. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustavo and Madaline (Gaugler) Massar. He is survived by daughter, Tracey Horutz; son, Steven Massar (wife Athena); and granddaughters, Nicole Erins (husband Aleks), and Michelle Power (husband Kevin). His family brought him immeasurable pride and joy.Tom never passed up a good hot dog or a bowl of ice cream and was especially fond of sneaking Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. He was also noted for wearing suspenders. He loved telling “grandpa” jokes and was known for his dry sense of humor. More often than not, it was hard to tell whether he was joking or serious, a trait that kept family and friends laughing and guessing for years.Tom will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
