Obituary of Thomas Rivas
Lt. Col. Thomas J. "Tom" "Buck" "Colonel" Rivas Jr, 86, of Palm City, Florida, died on October 16, 2012 at Martin Medical Center, Stuart.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, he had been a resident of the Palm City for 20 years coming from Boca Raton.
He received his bachelor degree from Auburn University and his master's from the College of William & Mary.
Before retiring he served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army for 30 years. He saw action in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He received several medals and awards including the Combat Infantry Badge, Legion of Honor, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and three Army Commendation Medals.
After retiring he worked with youngsters and adults with addiction and behavioral issues.
Survivors include his wife Jane Phair Rivas of Palm City and a sister Rita Chandler of Alabama, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 9:30 - 10:30AM, Thursday, at Forest Hills Funeral Homes, Palm City Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00AM, Thursday, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Palm City.
