Obituary

It is with a sorrowful heart we announce the passing of Tim Crotty.
He was born July 30, 1950 in Dayton, OH and was raised in Columbus. He died on December 19, 2020 from Covid in Palm City, Florida. Tim was co-owner of the family business Spirit Services Co., first with his father and now with his son.

Tim worked hard and played harder. He enjoyed the hell out of his life. Although a less than average life span, Tim did not live an average life. If you'd asked him, he was Blessed. What a beautiful difference his life made.

Tim and his wife, Nina, met in July 1969 on a blind date… and he professed his love for her five days later. They were married in two and half years in mid January… fulfilling his friends prophecy that it would be a "cold day in hell" when Tim Crotty married... It was 13 below zero and a chill factor of 44 below. They would have been celebrated their 49th anniversary this month.

Tim is predeceased in death by his beloved mother, Josephine. Along with his wife he is survived by his two children, of which he was most proud. Colleen (Bryon) and Michael (Maria), his father, Frank, his sister, Chris, Sister in law, Seville (Kevin) and Brother in law Mike (Priscilla). He was overjoyed with his seven grandchildren, Vance, Quinn, Josephine, Grant, Kelsey, Kaylee, and Carlyle. He adored his nieces, Heather, Mindy, and Jennifer and Taylor and all their kiddos, and his nephews, Keyan, Roshan, and Ian. He has left a hole in the hearts of his oldest and dearest two buddies of 63 years, Sammy DeVictor and Dr. Mark Witazcack, a boatload (as he would put it) of cousins and their spouses and kiddos… and his "brothers" from Harbour Ridge, Bill Gallagher and Angelo Pignataro.

Tim was an athlete. He competed in marathons, including New York, and Columbus, but loved triathlons more. He was a great swimmer, never even making a wake in the water. It was an unspoken truth, that you never turned your back on Crotty when you were both in the water.

Tim was not a big joiner, however he did have a favorite organization near to his heart in Palm City, that being the Harbour Ridge Hogs. He really looked forward to their Saturday morning rides to hither and yon that always included breakfast or lunch, a little gossiping, and Tim passing his fellow members at break neck speed with a big ole grin on his face!

A part of the Harbour Ridge Community for nineteen seasons, he made a lot of friends and a lot of noise… that can be attested to by his neighbors! He smile was endearing, and you were never sure that he wasn't up to something. He was into speed… fast cars, fast trucks, fast boats, fast motorcycles, planes, helicopters..and that love for speed eventually made it's way to golf carts. It started with a challenge from another HR member who claimed to own the fastest golf cart in Harbour Ridge. Tim decided then and there that he would rectify that claim. He built the fastest cart on campus, and his record for speed still stands… 43.3mph. There are a bunch of carts within the community that have a bit of the Crotty Custom Carts within… from batteries to tires to seats and everything in between..

Tim was a fix-it kind of guy and loved figuring out how to build and fix things, more times that not, without manuals. He said you only read instructions to figure where you went wrong. Worked for him! He helped neighbors and friends and total strangers with plumbing, electrical, motorcycles, golf carts, cars, you name it, he'd try to help. But he did have strict rules in his shop… He'd tell you that if he found out you had tried to fix it yourself before bringing it in, it would cost you double… It all earned him a very special tee shirt. "If Crotty can't fix it, we're all screwed"

For Tim his four major food groups were hamburgers, pizza, spaghetti, and cookies. He loved cookies! He added his beloved Raisin Bran Crunch to the list several years ago when he decided to lose weight… nearly 60 pounds. Not a big vegetable kind of guy and never anything fussy. Never fish, no chicken, unless he was somehow tricked into it… and that was rare. He possessed two impressive cooking skills… His waffles were second to none and the recipe is a closely kept secret known only to him (earning him the title The Waffle King.) Tim made the best popcorn! Microwave popcorn, but ask Nina or any of his grandgirls and even total strangers, it was the best. He had just recently added grilled cheese sandwiches to his expertise but sadly didn't live long enough to tweak that recipe!

Tim worked with A Kid Again in Columbus, Ohio and it was very near and dear to his heart. He was on their board and helped with fundraising and spreading good times to the children and their families. Please consider a donation in his name. He would have been so honored.

Tim truly loved his family, immediate and extended, and his friends… which was nearly everyone he met. He touched people. His smile was what people have shared that they remember most. The beloved Harbour Ridge Community has been the most compassionate, loving, caring, helpful place that one could ever belong to… And what Tim loved about it most….

Tim will be missed by so many. He was a great guy. He was a true friend. And like the Wizard told the Tin Man… your heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others…His heart was big. Heaven has gained a sweet soul. Good-bye Tim, we will see you again!
