Obituary

Vencil Harold Lewis (Ven) was born January 12, 1923, in Paintsville, KY, part of the Thealka community.  His father was a coal miner and his mother a homemaker.

After finishing his education, Ven joined the U.S. Army as a flight instructor.  Upon leaving the military in 1945, Ven went to work as a Medical Administrative Officer at the Veterans Affairs office in Washington, DC.  Here, he was introduced to the woman who would forever hold his heart – Jane Price.  He and Jane went on to wed and lived in Washington for the remainder of their careers, retiring to Florida in the early 1970s.

They moved into a house on Sunshine Ave. in Port St. Lucie, but Jane wanted one with a pool, so when the house further up the street was completed, they moved and lived there for the remainder of their lives.

Ven and Jane enjoyed an active (and early!) retirement.  They both enjoyed golf and became avid Motorhome fans – traveling all across the lower 48, to Alaska, caravaning through Europe and even had their motorhome placed on a flatbed rail car as they caravanned through Mexico's Copper Canyon.

As Jane's eyesight slowly deteriorated, they became big fans of ocean cruising.  This interest took them to even further parts of the world.  They were always ready to pack their bags and head to the port – or the airport.

Ven's final year was spent at Grand Oaks, Jensen Beach where he was loved and cared for by their wonderful staff.  In December 2024, Roosevelt came on board as his caregiver and would be by his side with care, kindness and love for the remainder of Ven's life.

Ven is survived by a half-brother Don of Kentucky, and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife Jane.   A service of remembrance will be held in the Palm City Chapel at Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City on Monday, August 18th.  Visitation begins at 10:00AM followed by a service and interment beginning at 11:00AM.  All who wish to attend are welcomed.
