Obituary of Vera Wallman
Vera Elizabeth (Betty) Wallman passed away on August 5, 2014, at Water's Edge Extended Care in Palm City, Florida. Mrs. Wallman was born in Detroit, Michigan, on December 9, 1916, and resided in Alma, Michigan, for thirty years before moving to Hutchinston Island and finally to Palm City, Florida.
Betty graduated from Wayne State University, Detroit, where she worked for eight years. During World War II she was secretary to the District Medical Offices of the 12th Naval District in San Francisco, California.
In Alma Betty was a deacon at First Presbyterian Church and president of the Gratiot Community Hospital Auxiliary and the local Woman's Club. She was also involved in numerous charitable and community activities. She enjoyed swimming, tennis, and reading. Betty particularly enjoyed summers spent at the family cottage on Platte Lake in northern Michigan.
Betty was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Dr. C.H. Wallman. She is survived by her son, Dr. Carl Wallman, and his wife, Linda, of Columbus, Georgia, and their children Jill (Wallman) Cronin and her husband, Brian Cronin, of Seal Beach, California, and Carl Andrew Wallman and his wife, Jennifer, of Statesboro, Georgia; her daughter, Helen Bertsch and her husband, Thomas, of East Lansing, Michigan, and their five children and nineteen grandchildren; her son, Christopher Wallman, of West Palm Beach, Florida; her son, Kurt Wallman, of Lantana, Florida; granddaughter Callie Plummer of Indian River, Michigan; three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Phyllis (Juergens) VanWagoner, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Burial will be in the Pennington Garden of First Presbyterian Church, Alma, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Martin County, Florida.
