Obituary of Virginia Lazarus
Virginia Lee Lazarus (Pitchford) passed away quietly on March 15, 2015 at age 91. Virginia was born in Aberdeen South Dakota 11 November 1923. Her early years were in Rhame, North Dakota. She once commented that she thought that Armistice Day Parades were for her birthday.
In 1932 her parents William and Jeanette (Brayton) moved from North Dakota to Eugene Oregon. Working as a teletype operator at Camp Roberts, CA. during WWII she met and married Stanley Lazarus (1925-1999). In 1946 she moved back east with him to Brooklyn NY. Needless to say there was some culture shock.
In Valley Stream NY she raised 4 children. Michael Lazarus of Palm City, Dr. Jeffrey Lazarus of Seawall's Point, Bryan Lazarus of Upper Brookville, NY and Patricia Lazarus of Freeport, NY. She moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1988 then to Pt. St. Lucie in 2007.
She is survived by her 4 children and 5 Grandchildren Todd Lazarus (Jamie) of Smithtown, NY, Jason Lazarus (Kathryn) of Jacksonville Florida, Kyle Lazarus (Monica) of Miami, Florida, Meredith (Lazarus) Smith (Ricky) of NYC, NY, Lauren Lazarus of NYC, NY. She is also survived by 6 Great Grandchildren, Owen & Benjamin Lazarus of Smithtown NY, Gabriel Lazarus of Miami, Julianna & Cara June Lazarus of Jacksonville and Colton Smith of NYC.
She is also survived by her 3 brothers Lynn Pitchford of Santa Rosa Beach Florida, Roger Pitchford of Mesa Az. and William Pitchford of Savannah Ga.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City.
