Walter M. Alesi 99 passed away on November 15, 2022
Walter was born on December 28, 1922 in Salem, Ohio to parents Matthew and Agnes Alesi. He was the youngest of eight children. He grew up in Salem and retired in Florida.
Walter graduated from Salem High School in June of 1942. After graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was part of the Fifth Amphibious Corps, 4th Marines. Five of his brothers were serving at the same time in WWII, which is known as the "Greatest Generation" and survived. At the end of the war he was discharged with honors. At the age of 91 he made the Honor Flight Trip to Washington, DC to visit several WWII Memorials. Walter was always very proud of his service in the United Sates Marine Corp. After the service he owned and operated a supermarket "Franklin Market". After selling his supermarket he took a course on meat inspection at Ohio State University and became a State Inspector for several Counties in Ohio. In 1972 he moved to Stuart, Florida to become the Meat Manager of Grand Union. After his retirement he pursued the Real Estate Business, buying, remodeling, renting, and selling houses. Walter had an interest in Antique Cars (one of which he sold and shipped a 1956 Mercedes to Belgium), Artwork, Gold and Silver coins. He was an avid sports fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Miami Hurricanes, and the Miami Dolphin football teams.
He is a Charter Member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a Member of General AA Vanderift Detachment #068, and Marine Corps League of Palm Beach County. He is also a lifetime member of Elks Lodge #305 in Salem, Ohio where he served as Exalted Ruler from 1968-1969.
Walter is survived by his Son, Richard & Kelly Alesi, Bluffton, SC, his daughters Sandra & Larry McLaughlin , Lisbon, OH, Lynn & Robert Caspe, Vero Beach, FL, Debbie & Mike Orsatti, Palm City, FL, Barbara & Bruce Pfister, Ijamsville, MD 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, son Steven, parents, brothers Bill, Carl, Edward, Albert, Fred, John, and sister Margaret McLain.
A celebration of life will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 2001 SW Murphy Road, Palm City, FL, on Friday, November 18th, 2022 between 10:00 - 11:00 am with an entombment to follow. Contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice House or Tunnels to Towers. Following the service and entombment a luncheon will be held at Manero's in Palm City.
