Obituary of Walter Cobourn
Walter Shaffer Cobourn, 88, died peacefully in his Port St. Lucie home, September 6, 2015. He was born in Montgomery County Pennsylvania, November 13, 1926. He leaves his loving wife of 33 years, Gladys Irene Cobourn and an extended family including brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. He was part of the "greatest generation", his service to country spanned five decades. In 1945 aboard a B17 "Flying Fortress" his crew survived an encounter with Germany's ME 262 jet fighter. In 1966, his military security duties included "Air Force One" for then president Lyndon B. Johnson. Walt retired from active duty in 1972, and from the U.S. Postal Service in 1995. During retirement, "Walt" passionately compiled his family's ancestry.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors from the U.S. Air Force, will be 11:00AM, Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
