Obituary

Walter “Butch” McKay of Palm City, Florida passed away on March 28, 2026, at the age of 75.

Butch was born on July 15, 1950, in Dearborn, Michigan to Walter and Joyce McKay. Butch graduated in 1968 from Schaffer Highschool in Southgate, Michigan where he met the love of his life Ersilia (Ellie). Together they resided in Riverview, Michigan until 2000 before relocating to Palm City, Florida. They were married for 54 years, creating memories and adventures throughout them all.

He was known for his strong character, sense of humor, and the way he connected with everyone he met. Throughout his life, Butch was dedicated to his work as a locomotive engineer at Detroit Toledo and Ironton Railroad, earning the respect of those around him through his hard work and integrity. Outside of work, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, and riding motorcycles. He especially valued time with friends and family and social gatherings. Butch will be remembered for his loyalty, generosity, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him and his elaborate storytelling, while making everyone laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Ersilia (Ellie) McKay; two daughters, Kelly (Mark) Geier & Candice (Abraham) Graves; three grandchildren, Kelsey, Carley, and Claire; & sister, Shirley (Dennis) Santo.

He was preceded in death by his father Walter, mother Joyce and sister Doris.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation for all the love and support during this difficult time.
