Obituary of Warren Sander

Palm City FL. Warren Charles Sander, 89, of Palm City Florida, passed away peacefully at home on November 7, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born in Lynn MA on June 24, 1925, he was the only son of Charles C. Sander and Elsa Patscheider Sander. Warren was a loving and devoted husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend, treasured by his family for his quiet nature and a kind and generous heart. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Marie Gerschick Sander, and his children, Carol M. Sander of Franklin MA and Robert C. Sander and his wife Kathy, of Colchester CT along with grand-daughters Lisa Catherine Sander of Keene NH and Catherine Hayley Conard of Franklin MA, nephews James Begun and wife Jean, Ralph Begun and wife Kathryn, and Wayne Begun and wife Judy and their children. He is also survived by children Donald Gerschick and wife Patricia, Mary Gerschick Knight, Jane Freeland Gerschick, Rose Gerschick and many grandchildren and great grandchildren on the Gerschick side of the family.

Mr. Sander was predeceased by his wife Catherine O'Connor Sander in 1983 and his sister Eunice R. Begun in 2005. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire after serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII on destroyer escort USS Engstrom stationed in the North Pacific. Most of his career was spent at United Technologies Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut before he was part of a large division transfer to the UT West Palm Beach operation, from which he retired in 1987.

Warren loved spending time with his children and their families and had cherished memories of his early and mid-life in New England, specifically growing up in Concord NH and summers on Loon Lake in Freedom NH. He and Kay raised their children in South Windsor CT where he returned to visit many times during his retirement. He enjoyed life in South Florida and he and Marie traveled extensively and worldwide.

Special thanks to good friends and neighbors, Veronica Linn and Frances Douglas, for their long friendship and ongoing support to the family including much-appreciated laughter in Warren's declining days. Also thank you to the wonderful nurses who cared for him at home through Treasure Cove Hospice of Stuart FL.

There will be a memorial service at 1:00 PM on Tuesday , November 11, 2014 at the Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City.

Services and burial in South Windsor CT will be private.
