IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wesley (Wes)
Reid Harvin Sr.
January 4, 1944 – January 24, 2022
Obituary Of Wesley (Wes) Reid Harvin, Senior
Wes passed away on January 24, 2022 at Hospice House in Stuart, Florida. To honor his wishes, a memorial service is not planned at this time, but at a later date.
Family members remarked that Wes was a self-made man. He was born on January 4, 1944 in Thomasville, Georgia to Henry Ellis Harvin and Bertha McCray Harvin. Wes remembered his mother singing songs in Gaelic, reflecting her Scottish heritage. Raised on a farm Wes could tell you how to plow a mule or when to plant corn. He always got a kick on showing his little granddaughter, Ruby, how to "call" turkeys.
Graduating from Central High School in Thomasville, Georgia in 1961, he lettered in football and baseball. Wes earned q bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida and his Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University. After graduation, Wes, Kay, and Wes II moved to Stuart in 1976.
Wes was a member of the Florida National Guard of which he was so proud to serve his country. He loved this nation and became active in politics to further serve. He ran for office in 1982 and for a judgeship in 1994. He volunteered in several political campaigns.
He practiced law in Martin County from 1976 until 2021, serving as the Martin County Bar president for two years. Wes was so proud when his son, Wes II, joined the firm in 2002 as a tax attorney.
Wes and his wife Kay had been married for 57 years and enjoyed travelling together. They particularly enjoyed visiting Beijing in 1987 and participating in the People-to-People ambassadorship by invitation from President Reagan.
Wes' hobbies included competing in the senior triathlons and deep-sea diving. His favorite was bass fishing, both competitively and for fun. He often fished the local canals and in Lake Okeechobee.
A lifelong Methodist, Wes was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Stuart. He enjoyed volunteering there.
Wes is survived by his wife, Kay; one son, Wes II; and one granddaughter, Ruby. He will be sorely missed by his many friends, like BEF, Bob, and sisters-in-law Janet and Anita, whom he held in great esteem.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice.
