William E. Crowley, after 18 months of bravely fighting cancer, died peacefully on August 9, 2017, at Martin Memorial in Stuart with his wife Clare by his side.

Born in 1937, he lived on Long Island before moving to Wilton and Stamford, Connecticut.

After a long career as a stockbroker (New York and American Exchanges), he retired in 1998. He sailed his boat from New York to Hutchinson Island, built a home at the Florida Club, met Clare and married in 2004. They most recently resided in St Lucie South and Hutchinson Island.

Variously known as Bill, Billy, Billy "C", Bad Boy Billy, Captain Bill, Daddy, Pop, and Grandpa Bill, he wore many hats. They all fit him very well.

His very fine traits won him many friends. Bill was kind, generous, uncomplaining, had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved good times with friends and family.

He enjoyed the beach, boating and golf. A seasoned traveler, he was an enthusiastic planner of cruises and trips with Clare and friends, including two trips traveling across this great country.

In addition to his wife, Clare Ramsdell Crowley, he is survived by his daughters, Kathy Crowley Ruther and Suzanne Crowley Strawn; son, William E. Crowley Jr; stepson John Blackmore and 4 grandchildren: Carolyn, Michael, Anne Estelle and Jackson.

Arrangements are through Forest Hills Palm City Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Redeemer RC Church in Palm City on November 3 at 10 AM.
