November 11, 1946 – May 20, 2025
William Joseph Mahoney II, age 78, of Palm City, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Bill had a rare form of cancer which he was determined to beat. He fought a long, hard battle and is one of the longest survivors of the disease.
A wonderful son, brother, husband, father, pa-pa, and friend. Bill is survived by his wife of 51years, Betty (nee Mullen), his two children, Kelly and Bill (Jessica), three grandchildren, Hayden, Remington and Ruby, and many other extended family members.
Bill was born November 11, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA where he grew up until age 11 when he and his family moved to Cornwall Heights, PA. Bill attended Bensalem High School where he started running track and field and made the Hall of Fame. Bill received a four-year scholarship from Temple University where he made All American two years in a row. Bill served in the Army for two years. He had orders to go to Vietnam but was saved by the Army track team. After Bill's time in the service, he returned to Temple to get his master's degree in business which landed him a career at 3M. Bill was an Executive Director with 3M for 33 years.
His career gave him and his family the opportunity to travel all over the world as they moved to Minnesota, Texas, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Brussels, Belgium. Bill and Betty retired in Palm City, FL in 2005. They loved fishing and boating and were active members of the Grady White Boating Group. Bill served as the commodore for the group for five years. They had a great life crossing over the Bahamas with all the wonderful people in their group.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Forest Hills Palm City, FL 34990.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, Children's Hospital or to the Veteran's.
