William L. Richey, 73, of Palm City, passed away on August 22, 2016. Survivors include his wife, Linda N. Richey; his daughters, Leeana H. Richey Hupfer and her husband Eric S. Hupfer of Jacksonville, NC, and Lynnet E. Richey of Palm City and Atlanta, GA.

Born in Harlingen, TX, on May 3, 1943, he had been a resident of Palm City for 17 years coming from Miami Beach. He was recruited to Miami in 1974 by then Assistant State Attorney, Janet Reno, after his graduation from The Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts. In addition to his love of Florida, Mr. Richey never lost his immense pride in being a native son of the Great State of Texas, where many family members continue to reside.

He was an attorney and was recognized as the pioneering leader in International Asset Recovery in the United States. Prior to law school, he had also been the City Manager of Crystal City, TX. His roles as an attorney included Chief of the Public Corruption and Organized Crime Division of the Office of the State Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, Chief Assistant State Attorney for the Office of the State Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida and a member of the Florida Comptroller's Money Transmitter Task Force. He was a founding member of the law firm Richey & Munroe, and was in practice as William L. Richey, P.A. at the time of his death.

He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas, San Marcos, his Master's Degree from St. Mary's University, San Antonio, did PhD work at the University of Texas, received his JD from The Harvard Law School. He was a Research Fellow at the Kennedy School of Politics. His Bar Admissions include Florida, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Tax Court, the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida, U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits.

There will be a memorial service held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Forest Hills Funeral Home, 2001 SW Murphy Road, Palm City, Florida.
