Yolanda Adelaida
Hernandez
Oct 16, 1932 — Feb 12, 2021
Port Saint Lucie
Yolanda Hernandez, age 88, born on October 16, 1932 in Havana, Cuba to Cesar and Graciela Rodriguez, died peacefully on February 12, 2021.
At the young age of 15, she married the love of her life, Clemente, when he was also a young man of 19.
Yolanda, Clemente and their children fled Cuba in 1965 after he served 4 years as a political prisoner in "La Cabana" prison in Cuba. She was always by her husband's side as he took the mission, fighting against communism working with the U.S. labor movement in Ecuador, Uruguay, Panama, Guatemala and El Salvador. After her husband's retirement, they moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia and in 2005 moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Yolanda's most remarkable quality was her gratitude toward the small things in life. She was an optimist, finding a reason to laugh even in those moments where most would have broken down. Her laugh was infectious and her presence lit up the room. She was always Clemente's right hand both literally and figuratively. His Cuban coffee was never amiss in Yolanda's purse, a small act of love but one which painted their close to 70 years of marriage. Yolanda was Clemente's tower of strength just as he was her everything. Even after Clemente died, Yolanda honored his memory by continuously citing the poem he wrote to her in prison in which he professed his eternal love to her.
Yolanda was madly in love with her husband but her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate a birthday or an anniversary and she cherished those moments she got to spend with her family. She loved to capture those special moments which is evident in the numerous albums she kept along with stacks of letters and pictures she received from her children and grandchildren.
Yolanda is survived by her daughters, Graciela, Yoly, Anne Marie and her husband Angel, Elizabeth and her partner Johnny, her grandchildren Sergio, Hectico, Maggie, Yolita, Mickey, Olga Marie, Veronica, Cesar, Jonathan, Tony, 14 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.
